St. Dunstan's started in a barn, We were part of Mr. Black's farm. We had Cook on top, a few sheep and mammal, With some help from Wistar, Hogeland and Campbell. We grew so fast 'twas hardly real, Sunday School each morning with Frank & Eddie's Saturday veal, Had stewardship Sundays and Building Fund To make St. Dunstan's easier to run. For the fund had hardly begun, The Bishop told us Cookie was done. Our hearts were crushed - spirit not dead, All we could do was keep looking ahead. Keep working and praying and giving again, With help from "two kids from Michigin." Before we had nerve to ask them to give, we had to find them a place to live. They worked real hard and gave us some money, We got our church - ain't it a honey? Rooms for the kids and a choir too, Now we need more people to fill each pew. Now East (a good preacher) and Kay (a good wife) They began to give us some fresh new life. But what the hell - even if he's a peach, We found he'd rather teach than preach! Here we go again, without a priest, Cook is gone and so is East. DeWitt says, "Hell, St. D, that's easy!" He came up with a guy named Charlie Higbee. A realnice wife and a heckuva guy, With a congregation that will do or die. We're a determined group and won't run out of gas, Even if we got a couple to cut the grass. Ten years - we've had seom growing pains, Three good guys helped, not lose, but gain. So you people listen, keep it goin' In order to keep St. Dunstan's growing. |

We started out in a little garage The thought of a church was just a mirage We were a mixed bunch of total strangers In a little barn without a manger Bob Cook was our Vicar; he really stood out He patiently explained what our group was about Our pews were folding chairs with no kneeling benches seen The place was so very small; it was easy to keep clean No Vestry was there, just a committee of three With only one service; they were easy to see With a piano for music; our voices were fair What we lacked in ability, we made up with flair After church it was coffee at Eddie and Frank's We gathered and talked and sipped it with thanks We were a social and friendly Episcopal bunch Then we separated and took off for our homes and our lunch We all knew each other; some were sister and brother Our troubles were few until Bishop Dewitt broke through He gave us great grief, but we called on our belief So our church has survived and we continue to grow For God's direction is there for us here down below |
